Our team are a casual staff workforce with a wonderful mix of diverse interests and passions. We have worked with inspirational uni students who eventually move on to careers focused on a sustainable planet. Jo, Bec, Matt and Sally all live within walking distance of our Vic Park store. Kate brings in a lovely diversity from the Perth Hills and Kobi from the Northern suburbs. We all grow food, compost, and are learning every day just how the power of one makes a difference!
Between us we hold Permaculture Design Certificates, an Advanced Permaculture Design Certificate and Certificate 3 in Permaculture. We are members of our local Community Gardens, shop locally, and support independent local businesses.
Jo began her career as an engineer - her background is in control systems implementation on oil and gas facilities and mining sites. Finding Permaculture and understanding that the humus molecule created by composting can help heal our Earth was life-changing and led to the creation of Urban Revolution. Jo has a wealth of experience in Permaculture and garden design. She loves creating soil, growing food and wholefood cooking. Jo has two kids and a husband who has completed his PDC and is now the home composting guru!
Bec is the smiling face of our Perth Eco and Garden Store. With a strong background in retail, catering and hospitality, she regularly spoils us with an array of home baked goods for in store events. She managed the design and build of her permaculture property in nearby Kensington, where she enjoys growing veggies and keeping chooks. She also engages with her local community by running community composting on her front verge. Bec holds a Permaculture Design Certificate and enjoys learning new things from the customers everyday as much as she loves helping them.
Kate moved to the Perth Hills from the UK in 2018 and enjoys learning about backyard biodiversity and how to grow a successful edible garden in Perth’s wonderfully warm climate. She is committed to low tox living, working hard to minimise the use of chemicals at home and in family life. With a strong background in marketing, she has most recently worked on a self employed basis for small businesses, while raising her young family. Kate has a specific responsibility for marketing as part of the Urban Revolution team, and can also be found in-store regularly on Sunday and Monday.
Wickietells us: Passion for community, creativity and nature feels like it is in my DNA. From growing up exploring the Northern Territory (with my mother who used to quiz me on the latin names of natives as we drove to our camping spots), to now as an adult, learning about cyclical living, volunteering with many wwoofing hosts throughout Australia and researching the basics of permaculture out of curiosity. My dream is to live in a world that is in harmony with the wisdom of nature, to embody the understanding that we are all nature, and to share the love of how connected things really are. To share this passion with people through Urban Revolution feels the closest to IKIGAI I have experienced so far.
Melody lives and creates in Walyalup, nestled between the ocean and the river. She loves to forage for bush tucker and edible weeds, practice slow, mindful living and write poetry. Inspired by the ethics and ideas of permaculture, Melody is excited about the possibilities of caring for the earth in urban spaces. She completed her Permaculture Design Course in 2024, and has enjoyed working an eclectic array of jobs that all feed into her passions for earth care and people care. Some of her favourites have been gardening with children, writing and producing a documentary about bread-making and communicating the stories and happenings at Perth City Farm.
Alice is one of our treasured support crew. Whilst you might not see her in store, you're sure to have seen her work - from managing our socials, shops displays, workshops, promotions and more. Alice's experience in small business, marketing and her love for environment make her a much valued team member, and great fit to help bring Urban Revolution out into the open, for all to enjoy
Matt brings a wealth of experience in customer service and e-commerce to the Urban Revolution team, where he has specific responsibility for online marketing and search engine optimisation. He has a keen interest in sustainability and gardening which stems from childhood days spent on his grandparents rose farm in the Perth Hills. Matt is currently establishing a veggie garden by repurposing IBCs, and recently completed the renovation of his front yard which included the restoration of jarrah fencing and planting a waterwise native verge garden.
Sally lives and grows food on a small suburban block in Perth. She discovered Urban Revolution while doing her first Permaculture course and was a frequent customer before she became a member of staff though now is volunteering time to sprinkle around her fairy dust. Sally loves to cook, sew and spend time in her garden, and she hopes one day to master the art of growing vegetables from seed.
