Best Tips for Planting Herb Seeds:

  • Herbs work great in pots and containers - this helps contain the herb, preventing it from getting out of control, but also makes it easy for you to move your herbs around and find the perfect spot for them.
  • Herbs can also be grown directly in the ground and in garden beds. Some herbs even make fantastic companions for vegetables, helping keep pests and diseases away!
  • For planting in pots, use high quality potting mix. Healthy soil will translate into healthy herbs.
  • Fill your pot or container with soil. Sprinkle herb seeds on top, then lightly cover with a sprinkling of soil. Do not bury too deeply.

Where to Plant your Herb Seeds:

  • Directly in the ground or raised garden beds. Alternatively, you can start the seeds out in a seedling tray or Fertil pots before transplanting into your garden.
  • Alongside your vegetables and other herbs - many of these herbs make wonderful companions in the garden!
  • In pots and containers – herbs are great for container gardening. You can even grow them on a window sill. Just make sure the container has good drainage and fill with good quality potting mix.

** Keep in mind, some herbs like mint can be notorious for taking over a garden bed – if this is a worry, grow in a pot or grow bag. **
