The Tumbleweed Worm Feast is a worm tower or tube that lets you convert food waste into nutrient rich fertiliser directly into your garden using Nature's recyclers, earth worms. Place this in your vegetable or flower garden and plants nearby will flourish.
The Worm Feast is easy to assemble and install, and comes with a well-fitting lid to exclude pests. It makes a great alternative to a tiered worm farm for people with limited space and for those who prefer less maintenance.
In this composting system you can use composting worms or native earthworms.
How to Install in Your Garden and Use
Choose an easily accessed position in your garden for the Worm Feast feeding station.
Dig a hole a little wider than the feeding station and about 40cm deep.
Insert the feeding station making sure that, when back-filled with soil, only the top 5cm of the station will remain above the surface.
Add about a 5cm thickness of bedding material to the station. This could be damp shredded cardboard or paper, or perhaps hydrated coconut coir.
Either add composting worms (about 500) or wait for native worms already in your garden to discover the feeding station.
Add food scraps - not too many though! Wait for the worms to eat through most of the scraps before adding more. As the worms multiply they'll be able to process greater volumes of kitchen waste.
If using composting worms, be sure to provide a regular supply of food scraps. Native worms will feed themselves from your garden if food scraps run low.
Native worms will carry castings out into the soil, so no harvesting of castings is required.
When only using native worms, ideally, add in your food scraps followed by a similar size of carbon inputs such as fallen leaves, shredded household paper, newspaper, lint from vacuum cleaners/dryer
